ORCA

LOW TEMPERATURE EVAPORATION

The ORCA low-temperature evaporation source is designed to achieve precise temperature control through a unique combination of active cooling and heating. This balance ensures exceptional stability during operation.

Constructed from high thermal conductivity materials, the crucible prevents the formation of hot spots that could otherwise disrupt the evaporation rate. Users have the option to add alumina or graphite liners, but regardless of configuration, the crucible is easily accessible. Swapping or refilling it requires no tools and can be done quickly, making maintenance simple and efficient.

For enhanced accuracy, the ORCA utilizes a K-type thermocouple embedded directly into the crucible, offering superior temperature readings compared to surface contact alternatives. The system comes equipped with a power unit and a PID controller specifically tuned for low-temperature applications.

The ORCA is compatible with various deposition techniques, including sputtering, e-beam, and thermal sources. A cooled shielding cap effectively reduces thermal cross-talk, and when used alongside the temperature gradient sample stage, it enables precise substrate temperature regulation for optimal results.

'ORCA' Organic Evaporation

The evaporation of materials at low temperature (50-600°C) requires specialised sources specifically designed to perform efficiently within this range. Traditional evaporation sources are optimised for operation above 1000°C, where minimising conductive thermal losses is crucial. In these high-temperature systems, accurate PID control depends largely on radiative losses. However, at lower temperatures, radiative losses are greatly reduced, making it difficult to maintain precise temperature control. As a result, conventional sources often experience overshooting and sluggish temperature adjustments, rendering them less effective for low-temperature evaporation applications
