Teaching and Training

THE HEX SERIES

Thin Film Training

The HEX series has been developed with student training in mind. Its modular construction allows various key elements to be exposed, discussed and interacted with, enabling student laboratories to fully explore the mechanical, material and growth elements of thin film research and nanomaterials.

The HEX’s ability to be quickly reconfigured at low additional expense allows the system to provide simple thin film training on a reproducible and recognisable platform for various deposition/coating techniques ranging from sample preparation for surface analysis to e-beam, sputtering, thermal, organics (for OLED research) and a range of other thin film deposition techniques.

All connectors/fixings on the system and the sources, including gas and water flow, are quick connects, allowing for the elimination of most tools during system operation and sample/target changes. The system’s compact footprint and the option to have it either bench, rack, or frame mounted make it an ideal size for any teaching environment and enable simple transfer to other laboratories/departments where necessary.

All ports, fittings and connections on the system are externally visible, allowing for a clear view of what is going in within the system and allowing for a greater understanding of how PVD operations work.

THE HEX SERIES

Teaching of PVD

The unique multi-sided nature of the HEX, and the fact that it can be easily moved either on its frame or electronics rack, allows students to gather round the entire system.

Sides can be left exposed so sources can be assessed from multiple angles, and quickly removed and passed round for individual students to get a close-up look.

The Korvus Niobium automation software also features a clear, modular design to allow for ease of use for less experienced PVD operators. The software has built-in recipes and operational locking mechanisms to restrict access, if needed, to certain modules and operation parameters.

This, along with free-of-charge support from the Korvus customer support team, gives the HEX system a real edge as a tool for the training of budding PVD researchers.
